DEELCOLLECTIES
Ensemble
The starting point for the M HKA’s collection was the Gordon Matta-Clark Foundation, established in an unsuccessful attempt by the International Cultural Centre (ICC) to build a museum around Gordon Matta-Clark’s Office Baroque.
The M HKA is now managing several collections, including the video store and the ICC archives, the Vrielynck collection with pre-cinema and cinema hardware, a collection of artists' books, the Panamarenko House and archives, as well as, of course, the works of art. The art collection includes works in public ownership of various origins. The core collection, or nucleus, spans the period from the events in the mid-60s to the present day. The backbone of the collection consists of the works of art purchased for, and on the proposal of, the Flemish Community. In addition, the main sub-collections are their own purchases and works on permanent loan from the Flemish Community. Moreover, there are often significant donations, such as that of Panamarenko, who donated his property along Biekorfstraat with the entire contents to the museum, or the Polaroids of Luc Tuymans. The M HKA also manages other public funds, such as the collection of the Foundation for the Visual Arts (SBKM - The Vleeshal) in Middelburg.
